Privacy Policy
For the “Review Exporter for Yelp” Chrome extension and this website. Last updated 2026-10-23.
The short version
We run no server that receives your reviews, or anything else about you. The reviews the extension captures stay in your own browser, and the files it exports go to your Downloads folder. There are no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. The only outside service the extension contacts is ExtensionPay, for payment and the paid/unpaid check described under Payments below, and nothing reaches it before you click Unlock or Activate.
What the extension does, and when
It does nothing until you open its panel on a Yelp business page (yelp.com or yelp.ca). Opening the panel runs the paid/unpaid check described under Payments, and, if the page isn't sorted by newest, first reloads that tab at the same business's newest-first address. That is an ordinary page load of Yelp's own page in your browser; nothing about it is sent to us. It reads reviews only after you press Start, and then reads what that page shows to your browser: the review text, rating, date, the reviewer's name and location as Yelp displays them, the owner reply if there is one, and the review's Yelp id. It does not read your other tabs, and it has no access to any site in the background.
What is stored, and where
- Captured reviews are saved in your browser's own storage for the extension (IndexedDB), one capture per business, so a long capture can resume after a reload or a restart. They stay there until you press Start over or until 7 days after the last capture for that business, whichever comes first, and are deleted automatically the next time the extension runs. Removing the extension from Chrome removes this storage too.
- Your exports are written to your Downloads folder when you press a download button. They are ordinary files on your computer. We never receive a copy.
- Your purchase status: ExtensionPay's code in the extension keeps the date it was installed and, once you click Unlock or Activate, an anonymous key and your paid/unpaid status (and your email, once you have bought) in Chrome's extension storage that syncs, so Chrome may copy them to your other devices where you are signed in to Chrome.
Reviewer names and locations are published by Yelp. They are copied only into your browser's storage and into the file you choose to export. What you do with that file afterwards is up to you.
Permissions, and why each is needed
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
activeTab and scripting | To open the panel on the Yelp tab you are on, and only when you click the extension's icon. |
downloads | To save the CSV or JSON file to your Downloads folder. |
storage | So ExtensionPay can remember your purchase on this browser. The capture in progress is kept in the extension's IndexedDB, which needs no permission. |
The extension asks for no host permissions and runs no content scripts on other sites.
Payments
The optional one-time purchase is handled by ExtensionPay, which uses Stripe to take payment. The extension checks whether this browser has bought the unlock when you open the panel, and again when you download, open the report, or wait for a purchase to go through. Until this browser has an anonymous key, that check is answered inside the extension and no request reaches ExtensionPay. ExtensionPay creates the key the first time you click Unlock or “Already bought it? Activate here”. From then on each check is a request to ExtensionPay carrying the extension's id and that key, and, as with any web request, ExtensionPay sees your IP address. It never carries a review or anything you captured. The key and the answer are kept in Chrome's extension storage that syncs (chrome.storage.sync), so Chrome may copy them to your other devices where you are signed in, and a key made on one of them counts as this browser's too.
If you buy, ExtensionPay and Stripe process your payment and the email address you give them; we never see your card details. ExtensionPay and Stripe are the only outside services the extension involves, and their own privacy policies, linked above, describe how they handle that data.
Analytics, cookies and tracking
None. The extension sets no cookies, contains no trackers and sends no usage data. This website sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts or analytics. Like any web host, Vercel, which serves the site, keeps ordinary server request logs.
How we use data
We run no database of users or reviews, so there is nothing of yours for us to sell, share or use for any other purpose. The extension uses what it reads from a page only to build your export and your report, which is its single purpose.
This extension's use of data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
